HELIOS

In this dystopian present, the second collaboration with Serafini seeks to silhouette an explosion of Light and Stone against the black backdrop. Through the suspension and proximity of onyx slabs and light sources, we have tried to generate that galactic deflagration necessary to shake off the paucity of the present and avoid a slow progression of the current cultural Middle Ages. The slabs (the “scraps”) in fact are the consequence of increasingly wicked and unsustainable human actions. Selecting and unifying them are simple gestures designed to ennoble their essence in order to create something new through the link between them. Each individual plate gains value only in the relationship with the others and all together through Light. With the creation of an organically shaped brass flow, Light is then transported and directed to where each plate can tell its story, fixing an exact moment that could be any and it is exactly that one, as in a photograph of dancing bodies or the final scene of Zabriskie point. Sequence and movement are achieved through the individual hanging of the slabs and brass, for which we have resorted to a well-established mechanical fastening technique used in the stone bases by Italian Rationalism. In fact through simple “studs” present at the corners of the slabs the stone is anchored to the building’s body. These technical elements also have in this case a strong aesthetic value and meaning, since they are here used to keep the slabs anchored to their hanging cables. There is only way out through Culture shifting the focus from the “me” to “us”, understood as the coexistence of living beings and Nature.
